Our Christmas charity campaign

Presents, food, family and parties – it can be a wonderful time of the year, however we're also aware that for some people the festive period can be just another day of hardship and isolation.

This year we wanted to help four inspirational charities located near each of our branches. These organisations work tirelessly to care for some of the most vulnerable individuals within our communities at Christmas and throughout the year.

Rudridge staff from Farnham, Gravesend, Brentford and Horsham compiled a wishlist of basic necessities and festive food to donate to four centres that provide support to hundreds of homeless men and women.

The wishlist items included everyday shopping staples such as washing powder, fabric conditioner, toiletries and anti-bacterial spray, as well as some special treats to make Christmas more enjoyable, from sweets and chocolate to crisps and savoury goods.

Our Farnham branch supported homeless charity Number Five Project in Guildford which is a direct access night shelter for men and women in the area, providing short term emergency accommodation and additional support. The shelter is open every day of the year including Christmas Day, and is on hand with hot meals, showers and beds.

The Gravesend store delivered goods to Caring Hands in Chatham, Kent. Rudridge staff took tinned goods, cakes and toiletries to the charity's headquarters on New Road Avenue. Caring Hands is a day centre for homeless and vulnerable individuals. The aim is to get people back on their feet and regain their self-sufficiency by ensuring visitors have something hot to eat and someone to talk to.

Brentford staff donated to SPEAR London in Twickenham. Supplies of tea, coffee, pasta and toiletries made their way to an organisation that offers accommodation and other support services to those experiencing homelessness in South West London.

Finally, the Horsham store paid Crawley Open House a visit at its headquarters on Stephenson Way. The 24-bed hostel and separate day centre provides access to accommodation, support and hot food to those suffering homelessness, unemployment, loneliness and discrimination.

Paul Duke, Sales Director at Rudridge, said: "Christmas is a particularly difficult time of year for those who are homeless, especially since outdoor temperatures are starting to drop. We wanted to make a difference by delivering the most essential, useful and much-needed items to ensure we made a real impact on homeless people's lives."

And finally…

We'd like to take this opportunity to wish all our staff, customers and suppliers a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous new year. Thank you for your continued support over the year, and we look forward to seeing you in 2019.

Over the Christmas period, our branches will be closed from Thursday 20th December 2018, opening again on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.
