Lending a helping hand

After a particularly cold spell, nothing warms our hearts more than hearing about the amazing community projects, fundraising efforts and achievements of the groups and charities that we champion. And wherever possible, we're always happy to lend support to the amazing causes that have a real impact on people's lives.

As football fans, we're delighted to be able to pass on a love for the 'beautiful game' by encouraging young players at a grassroots level. Who knows, this thriving club might uncover the next Lionel Messi! So, we jumped at the opportunity to agree another sponsorship deal with Aldershot Boys and Girls Youth FC under 8s blues team for the 2017/18 season.

The under 8s play in the FA's North East Hampshire Youth League and the club are proud to be a Chartered Standard Community Club affiliated with the Hampshire FA. Operated completely by volunteers, it enables boys and girls to develop their skills, enjoy exercise and learn to work as a team. We're thrilled to be able to provide the team with a smart new kit, so that when they run out onto the pitch they really feel like they're part of something special.

Dan Steel, of Aldershot Boys and Girls Youth FC, said: "We are extremely grateful to Rudridge for their backing. We rely on the support of local companies, like Rudridge, to ensure we can continue to train and compete, and provide the facilities the team need to progress."

Last Christmas saw the Chailey Heritage Foundation in East Sussex take part in The Big Give's Christmas Challenge 2017 Awards. Designed to recognise the best performing charities and inspiring campaigns, we were pleased to be able to bolster the charity's bid to be crowned a winner.

The foundation's 'countdown campaign' was an inventive idea that presented staff and patrons in pictures – holding numbers in the countdown to the awards. As a result, the initiative raised £11,000 and the coveted title of Raising Charity Profile Award Winner. The charity supports children and young people with complex disabilities and health needs. Well done to the team there, we continue to be inspired by the work they do.

Last, but not least, we watched BBC One's DIY SOS on Wednesday 7th March and saw the touching story of PC Kris and his family, pleased in the knowledge that we were able to play a small part in helping this brave man caught up in the London terrorist attack on Westminster Bridge in 2017. The Big Build came to Barnet and our Brentford branch was there to offer supplies.

Darren Price, our Group Operations Manager, commented: "The diverse range of projects we've been involved in are all equally inspiring. From youth sports to individual stories of bravery and determination, we're pleased to play a role in them all and will continue to help wherever we can. When communities come together, amazing things happen."
