It's been a busy year of fundraising

Through our day-to-day connections with customers and suppliers, we get to hear lots of stories about worthy community causes or individual charitable endeavours that not only inspire us but deserve our support. And we strongly believe in the importance of giving back to the local communities in which we work and live.

As it's the season of goodwill, we're taking a look back at all the charities, projects and groups we've had the pleasure to assist this year, including a heads-up about our plans for 2019.

From running to racing

In April, we were delighted to sponsor our valued customer Aaron McSkimming, from AD Bly Construction in Hertfordshire, who ran the Virgin London Marathon for the second consecutive year in aid of The Prostate Cancer Research Centre. Having completed the course in five hours and 16 minutes, Aaron's final fundraising figure was an outstanding £31,437.80.

Here at Rudridge we have a soft spot for motorsports, so when we heard about up and coming talent Chris Crane in his bid to race at the National Hot Rod Championships, we wanted to lend our support. With our logo emblazoned on the side of his specialist-built Vauxhall Tigra, Chris has completed a busy year of fixtures finishing eighth in the British Championships and winning the 50th Anniversary National Hot Rod Trophy race. With a good start in qualifications for the world final, Chris is hoping to get on the grid next year.

One story that really touched our hearts was the plight of the Boyd family from Hook, whose seven-month-old baby Brodie was born with a severe craniofacial condition that means he needs 24-hour care. Working with Legacy Developments in Camberley, we were only too happy to donate building materials to renovate their home, so that Brodie could eventually leave hospital to live with his family.

Support for sport

Summer saw the completion of Badshot Lea FC's new ground at Westfield Lane in Farnham, after the club won our community campaign to provide assistance for a local project. We supplied building materials and advice to get the new facilities up and running, much to the delight of players and supporters.

We also helped out Aldershot Boys and Girls Youth FC under 8s during their 2017/18 season. Keen to encourage grassroots youth sports, the sponsorship deal provided the team with a new royal blue kit so they now look and feel the part at every match.

One of our fundraising highlights was the annual quiz night at the Silvermere Golf Club in Cobham, Surrey. This year, The Pretenders from Esher construction company Landmark Groundworks scooped the £1,000 prize money for its chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support. With over 80 people at the event, the evening proved to be mentally taxing and hugely enjoyable in equal measure!

Charity of the Year

Throughout 2019, our fundraising efforts will continue to be in aid of the Stroke Association, which has been named our Charity of the Year, in honour of our former employee Tony Marshall.

Keen to challenge ourselves, we're currently planning a huge fundraising event to take place next summer, which promises to push us to our limits! Keep an eye on our social media  and news pages for more information. Training starts in the new year!
