Bigger and better than ever: Rudridge Ultimate Strongman Giant Weekend ends in thrilling finale!

For the fourth year in a row, Rudridge has enjoyed the glory of sponsoring the Rudridge Ultimate Strongman Giant Weekend in Belfast.

Showcasing the impressive strength, power and endurance of some of the world's strongest men, the action-packed weekend unfolded in the city's iconic Belfast City Hall and concluded with a spectacular finale at Crumlin Road Gaol.

Contenders were set against each other in a series of awe-inspiring challenges, including the Ship's Anchor and Chain Drag, and the Stones of Strength, which tested the stamina, strength and skill of the athletes taking part, many of whom consume a whopping 10,000 calories a day during competitions.

The hugely popular UK's Strongest Man event saw contenders from across the country go head to head in a battle of beef and brawn.  The sold-out event took place on 3rd, 4th and 5th August, culminating with Laurence Shahlaei (aka Big Loz) from Cheltenham being named as the UK's Strongest Man 2017 and the coveted CNP XIII Trophy.

Laurence Shahlaei took the title of UK's Strongest Man for the first time, beating Tom Stoltman from Scotland and Pa O'Dwyer from Ireland who placed second and third respectively. Laurence, aged 34, won by just two points in a nail-biting battle to the finish having suffered an injury to his quad muscle in the penultimate event.

In addition to the UK's Strongest Man, the winner of the Ultimate Strongman Master World Championship - sponsored by Blackbox Document Solutions - was announced as Žydrūnas Savickas from Lithuania, taking the accolade from his fellow countryman, Vidas Blekaitis who won the title in 2016.

Alan Betteridge, Director at Rudridge, said, "Once again the event was a huge success and made for incredible viewing. The sheer power of the contestants and their tenacity for completing some of the toughest and most challenging tasks imaginable really is incredible."
